There’s something special about summer weddings in Michigan — the warm glow of the sun, the rich summer greens, and the feeling that everything is alive and thriving. This Grand Rapids wedding was no exception. Every detail came together beautifully, from the getting-ready moments in the morning to the golden-hour portraits that closed the night.

The day began at the on-site cottage where the bride and her closest friends got ready, surrounded by laughter and a sense of calm excitement. We captured the sweetest photos of the bride and her girls in their pajamas, before she changed into her gown. Meanwhile, the groom and his crew were inside the venue hanging out, listening to music as they prepared for the day ahead.

Before heading to the ceremony, the bride shared two of the most emotional moments of the day — a first look with her dad and then with her groom. Her dad’s reaction said it all: pure pride, joy, and a few happy tears as he saw his daughter as a bride for the first time. Moments later, she walked toward her soon-to-be husband. When he turned around, everything seemed to pause. The noise, the nerves, the bustle of the day. It was just the two of them, smiling through tears and soaking in the moment they’d been waiting for.

After the first looks, the anticipation shifted to excitement as guests began arriving for the ceremony. The space was surrounded by tall trees and the soft sounds of nature. Gentle music played while guests found their seats. The sky had turned slightly overcast, softening the light and making everything feel calm and timeless. Surrounded by family and friends, it was the perfect setting for them to exchange their vows. Such a heartfelt and joyful start to the rest of their forever.

Then the celebration continued inside with tearful toasts, good music, and endless dancing. Every table was adorned with white roses and soft candles, giving the space that relaxed yet elegant summer feel. As the night went on, guests filled the dance floor, and the laughter carried out into the warm night.

I stole the couple away for a few final shots outside. The sun glowed softly around them as they took a quiet moment to soak it all in. Those in-between moments are always my favorite to capture.

This wedding was a reminder of why I love what I do. Documenting love stories in their truest form, with all the emotion and beauty that make each one unique. It’s a day they’ll look back on forever, and a story I feel honored to have documented. I can’t wait for more summer Michigan weddings, more golden light, and more love-filled days like this!!
